New OCD Film Counterpoints changes the game completely by using effects & neuroscience research to present the strengths of an OCD brain, showing why if you have it, you also have the power to overcome it

Welcome to an entirely new way to permanently counter OCD, by returning the power to the person who has it (away from intrusive thoughts).

In the film, Counterpoints, we’ll use CGI images to take you inside the brain, so you can see the functions of this mental illness, how it works physically, why it can influence thoughts, and how to control it. (click here for more specific information about the movie’s content.)

A Tale of Two Brains

Yes, many intrusive thoughts can seem to spin out of control, however, even in those most extreme situations, there are positive aspects if you search for them. While OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) is defined as a form of mental stress, and it classifies as a mental illness, it’s also a physical condition of the brain.

Research shows an inflammation or an “overactivity” that is present in certain regions, lobes, or specific areas of the brain for OCD patients, yet brain scans for those patients show something else too- a high activity in cognitive areas that process creative functions.

Per information from that research, it’s logical to conclude the level of creativity contributes to the anxiety, by way of invention or interpretation of intrusive thoughts. And therefore, it’s equally as logical to conclude the same increase of high creativity is able to reverse the thoughts, or to invent or interpret them in other ways, so the anxiety is either non-existent or it does not have as much impact, meaning it’s manageable.

Here is where we begin to see the positive side of this physical condition to better understand how then to use it for treatment purposes- simply put, if someone’s brain is able to form a stressful thought, that brain is also able to form a counter thought- because it’s the same person, so both thoughts come from the same source, the person’s highly creative brain.

Control re-enters the equation, but since it’s impossible to control thoughts, it becomes necessary to learn how to focus the creativity, and that is where therapy is able to show the person how to focus or channel it for positive purposes, which improves receptiveness to CBT, or cognitive behavior therapy.

Focusing the brain to then use its creativity positively is how the person learns ways to use OCD’s own “power” against it effectively, and it returns the power to them, not only to overcome OCD, but in ways that can improve other areas of life, as it pertains to careers or relationships.
